UPDATE: Dear Parents, Yesterday, I sent you information regarding a recent court ruling affecting certain non-classroom based charter schools. Many of you have reached out to us expressing overwhelming support for what we do and asking for information regarding charter-friendly options. As a public charter school we can not endorse candidates or measures, however you may find this list provided by the California Charter Schools Association helpful as you make informed decisions on Election Day, November 8th. Sincerely, Dear Parents, There has been a recent court decision that concerns our La Fuente student center. The decision has ruled that charter schools like ours can only operate student centers within the boundaries of the district they are authorized and in the adjacent counties, but not within other school districts in their county. The newspaper article linked below explains the details of the case, but what it means for our school is that we must organize and implement alternative authorization for our student center. Since the decision will not be published by the court until November 16th, and since this decision affects more than 30,000 students across California, charter school advocacy groups are working feverishly to provide support and relief to charters affected by this change of policy. It is important to understand that the California Department of Education and the State Board of Education are not in alignment with this decision, since it reverses more than 15 years of acceptable operation by our type of school. We believe we will have time to find an acceptable authorizer, or a waiver alternative, for our La Fuente Student Center. We have charters in Riverside County and in Orange County that could host this center as part of their schools, or we could seek local authorization from the local school district. Rest assured that we are committed to keep operating this center with the same wonderful staff, the same great programs and the same mission. The link to the article (below) gives a "district-centric" view of the issue, but it summarizes the chain of events accurately. I have commented on the article if you scroll down, so feel free to add your voice too. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sd-me-charter-ruling-20161017-story.html Meanwhile, as we sort out our solutions, be sure to vote (please consider charter-friendly candidates and propositions in all local elections) and talk about these issues and the importance of having high quality free public charter schools to your friends, neighbors and co-workers. Spread the positive word of the benefits of public charter schools. We will be keeping you updated as our plans develop, and we will expect your help in advocating for our school as we apply for a new charter, or a waiver, or whatever our solution may be. Sincerely, Dr. Kathleen Hermsmeyer Superintendent Springs Charter Schools

Dear La Fuente Families,
La Fuente is growing! We started just over 2 years ago with 7 students on the first day and now we are approaching 130 students. As we grow, it's important that we continuously review and revise procedures to keep our students safe and sound and ready for learning in our school. Our volunteer procedure is ready for such a review. On Thursday 10/13 from 1-2, Mrs. Ramirez and I will lead a volunteer training which will be one of the steps required to volunteer to work with students in the classroom going forward(Level 2). If you are already scheduled to help in the classroom during the upcoming week, please check in with Jessica and do your volunteering as planned. Once we have held the training on 10/13, all volunteers will need to be cleared by Jessica to assist in the classroom with students(Level 2). The requirements for office volunteers or volunteers working in an area without students(Level 1) are also clearly defined and we would like you to have completed the training if possible. Please check with Jessica for a packet and information about either Level 1 or Level 2 volunteer status. As always, we welcome parents to come and see their students perform or to present to our students. No matter what, be sure to park off the playground area and go directly to the office to check in with Mrs Jessica. This goes for visitors and anyone who wants to drop off something for a student. Do not go directly to classrooms. Thank you.
